The Idea and approach for creating ForkIt

Created at:

I will try briefly to explain how I got here, how I got the idea and the approach for it.

Back to the beginning

Where I grew up (Bulgaria), I always had quick access to mountains and, more especially, mountain bike trails.

Inevitably, I guess it was meant for a kid who spends a lot of time in the mountains to have 'contact' with mountain bikes, and knowing my nature, to get hooked on mountain biking.

It just made perfect sense at the time—I loved mountains, and I wanted to get some adrenaline rush like almost every teenager.

Eventually, I got my first hardtail mountain bike (in a galaxy far, far away in 2009), and from there, my mountain bike journey began! Along the way, there were some of the nicest moments for me in mountain biking. Pure freeride riding all the time, racing, some podiums along the way, and a lot of new friends. It was the first time I felt a sense of community!

After some years of hard riding and a lot of crashes, I finally got my first full-suspension bike, and the whole idea of synchronizing front and rear suspension was unfamiliar to me.

There was always something not right, but no matter how much I was learning about bikes, there was never a perfect setup.

After a few hard years in the biking industry, I changed my trajectory into Software Development. One of the reasons for the way I approached this transition was the creator of Ruby on Rails - David Heinemeier Hansson, and I followed his approach into software development.

That's where things are leading to today. They idea came in the early 2020 where things were a bit slower. After some iteration and a lot of changes I had the time to finish this prolonged idea. I have created ForkIt so that I can help remedy some kind of problem but not in a 'modern' way - with a subscription-based system or ads that make the service useless. If the user likes the product, that's what matters to me!

Anyway, I will be happy to hear feedback for ForkIt and try to improve as best as I could.

That's it for this little brief; hope you enjoyed it.
